The non-prescription medicine bicaNorm ® Enteric-coated tablets from FRESENIUS MEDICAL CARE are used to treat metabolic acidification of the blood in chronic kidney dysfunction or renal tubular acidosis. Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a group of congenital or acquired disorders of the kidney in which the excretion of hydrogen ions or the reabsorption of filtered bicarbonate is impaired.

What ingredients are in bicaNorm ® contain enteric-coated tablets?
Serves as active ingredient Sodium bicarbonate .

When should you not use the over-the-counter medicine against hyperacidity?
You may use bicaNorm ® Do not use enteric-coated tablets if you:
- allergic to any of the ingredients
- have a potassium deficiency (hypokalemia)
- have a shift in the acid-base balance in the blood to the alkaline side (alkalosis)
- Follow a low-sodium diet and avoid table salt
- suffer from increased acidity of blood and body fluids due to respiratory diseases (respiratory acidosis).

How do you apply? bicaNorm ® enteric-coated tablets at?
The dose depends on the severity of your symptoms. Unless your doctor recommends a different dosage for bicaNorm ® prescribed, the initial dose is 2 to 3 tablets. Take these throughout the day, whole, and with some liquid with meals. The maintenance dose is up to 8 tablets daily.
Please leave one to two hours between taking other medications.
What side effects are associated with the administration of bicaNorm ® enteric-coated tablets known?
About the side effects of bicaNorm ® Tablets count: bloating, abdominal pain and muscle cramps. Existing problems in the digestive tract may worsen.
With prolonged use of bicaNorm ® Enteric-coated tablets may lead to the formation of calcium and magnesium phosphate stones in the kidneys.
What is the effect of an overdose of bicaNorm ® enteric-coated tablets?
An overdose of bicaNorm ® may cause metabolic alkalosis. This becomes noticeable through the following complaints:
- fatigue
- shallow breathing
- Muscle weakness
- Blue discoloration of the skin
As the disease progresses, apathy, confusion, intestinal obstruction and circulatory collapse occur. Therefore, medical monitoring of blood values is important. Monitor your condition and seek medical attention if you notice any of the above signs.
