indication

  • Levocetirizine dihydrochloride is the active ingredient of the drug.
  • It is used to treat allergies.
  • To treat signs (symptoms) of:
    • allergic rhinitis (including persistent allergic rhinitis);
    • hives (urticaria).

dosage

  • Always take this medicine exactly as described or as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
  • The recommended dose is:
    • Adults and children aged 6 years and over, 1 film-coated tablet daily.
  • Special dosage instructions for special patient groups:
    • Patients with kidney and liver disorders
      • Patients with impaired kidney function may receive a lower dose, which depends on the severity of the kidney disease and, in children, also on body weight. The dose will be determined by your doctor.
      • Patients with severely impaired kidney function should not take the preparation.
      • Patients with only impaired liver function should take the normal prescribed dose.
      • Patients with impaired liver and kidney function may receive a lower dose, which depends on the severity of the kidney disease and, in children, also on body weight. The dose will be determined by your doctor.
    • Elderly patients over 65 years of age
      • No dose adjustment is required in elderly patients provided renal function is normal.
    • Application in children
      • Its use is not recommended for children under 6 years of age.

  • How long should you take the medicine?
    • The duration of treatment depends on the type, duration and course of your symptoms and is determined by your doctor.

  • If you have taken more than you should
    • If you take more than you should, adults may experience drowsiness. Children may initially experience agitation and restlessness followed by sleepiness.
    • If you suspect an overdose, please notify your doctor. This will decide on any necessary measures.

  • If you forget to take it
    • Do not take a double dose if you forget to take the previous dose. This also applies if you have taken a smaller amount than prescribed by your doctor. Take the next dose at the next scheduled time.

  • If you stop taking it
    • Stopping use should not cause any harmful effects. However, in rare cases, pruritus (severe itching) may occur after stopping treatment, even if these symptoms were not present before treatment. The symptoms may disappear spontaneously. In some cases, symptoms may be very intense and require resumption of treatment. After resuming treatment, symptoms should disappear.

  • How and when should you take the medicine?
    • To take.
    • The film-coated tablets should be swallowed whole with water. It can be taken with or without meals.

Side effects

  • Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
  • Common side effects: may affect up to 1 in 10 people
    • Dry mouth, headache, tiredness and sleepiness/drowsiness
  • Uncommon side effects: may affect up to 1 in 100 people
    • Exhaustion and stomach pain
  • Not known: frequency cannot be estimated from the available data
    • Other side effects such as palpitations, rapid heartbeat/racing heart, cramps, tingling, dizziness, sudden loss of consciousness, tremors, impaired sense of taste, vertigo, visual disturbances, blurred vision, oculogyration (uncontrollable, circular movement of the eyes), difficult or painful urination, incomplete emptying of the bladder, increased Accumulation of water in the tissue (edema), swelling of the skin and mucous membranes, especially in the face and throat area (angioneurotic edema), itching, fleeting skin rash, hives (swelling, redness and itching of the skin), skin rash occurring in the same place (fixed drug eruption) , shortness of breath, weight gain, muscle pain, joint pain, aggressive or agitated behavior, seeing or hearing things that are not real (hallucination), depression, insomnia, frequent thoughts or preoccupation with suicide, nightmare, inflammation of the liver (hepatitis), abnormal liver function tests, Vomiting, increased appetite, nausea and diarrhea have also been reported. Pruritus (severe itching) after discontinuation.
  • At the first sign of a hypersensitivity reaction, stop taking it and inform your doctor. Symptoms of a hypersensitivity reaction may include: swelling of the mouth, tongue, face and/or throat, difficulty breathing or swallowing (chest tightness or wheezing), hives, sudden drop in blood pressure leading to collapse or shock, which can be deadly.
  • If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not specified.

interactions

  • Taking together with other medicines
    • Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.
  • Take with food, drinks and alcohol
    • Caution is advised when taking the medicine with alcohol or other drugs that affect the brain.
    • In susceptible patients, the concomitant use of this medicinal product and alcohol or other agents affecting the brain could lead to an additional decrease in alertness and reduced performance.
    • This medicine can be taken with or without meals.

Contraindications

  • The medicine must not be taken
    • if you are allergic to levocetirizine dihydrochloride, cetirizine, hydroxyzine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
    • if your kidney function is severely restricted (severe kidney failure with a creatinine clearance below 10 ml/min).

pregnancy and breast feeding period

  • If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

  • Warnings and Precautions
    • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
    • If you may not be able to empty your bladder completely (such as with a spinal cord injury or an enlarged prostate), please ask your doctor for advice.
    • If you have epilepsy or are at risk of convulsions, please seek advice from your doctor as using this medicine may increase convulsions.
    • If you are planning to have an allergy test done, you should ask your doctor if you should stop using it for several days. This medicine may affect the results of your allergy test.
  • Children
    • Its use is not recommended for children under 6 years of age as it is not possible to adjust the dose with the film-coated tablets.

  • Ability to drive and use machines
    • Some patients may experience drowsiness/drowsiness, tiredness and fatigue during therapy with the drug. Until you know how this medicine affects you, take care when driving or using machines. In special studies, however, no impairment of the attention, the ability to react and the ability to drive in healthy test subjects was found when levocetirizine was taken at the recommended dose.
